The best of both worlds: synergetic solutions for construction in China

In China, the construction with wood has a very long tradition and Chinese people have an extensive knowledge of the advantages and applications of wood. Nevertheless, in the past few decades, wood usage has declined as heavy building methods have been increasingly implemented. The well-proven Chinese system of building concrete slabs and columns can be combined ideally with light-weight timber structures that have been successfully developed in Europe over a very long period of time.

In Europe, the shortage of energy forced the development of energy saving, light-weight construction technologies decades ago. Today, China can benefit from this experience. The ideal combination in terms of saving material, time and money is the result of a combination of concrete structures with large-span glulam beams and columns, CLT load-bearing walls, wood truss roof systems and wood frame wall systems fo exterior walls. In other words: the best practices of Chinese and European construction traditions and know-how form the ideal synergetic solution for efficient construction in China.

Modern timber building system generally consists of four types

Glulam construction »

CLT construction »

Hybrid construction »
